From Ice Rinks to the Front Lines
The largest industrial movement since the collapse of Nokia mobile phone business is currently underway in Oulu. At stake is a 14-billion-euro market opened by the Hague Summit and technology that secures the vital functions of society.
As a player’s skate slices across the surface during an ice hockey match, the audience’s gaze is drawn to advertisements shining brightly from beneath the ice.
This is made possible by Finnish engineering: an impact-resistant and ultra-thin LED foil developed by Ledfoil Oy, protected by extensive international patents in 25 countries.
Until just a few years ago, Jouko Kyllönen, a 72-year-old resident of Oulu in Northern Finland, and his team were primarily concerned with selling more advertising space in ice rinks.
