Oulu Sees 10% of All Rob­be­ries in Country

Robberies have increased significantly in the Oulu region this year, as revealed by police statistics from January to April 2012. The statistics were compared to those of the previous year.

Robberies have increased significantly in the Oulu region this year, as revealed by police statistics from January to April 2012. The statistics were compared to those of the previous year.

The recent increase of robberies in Oulu represents a rise of over 100%, whereas nationally numbers have only risen about six percent.
The Oulu police department received reports of 52 robberies during the first four months of the year. In comparison, last year saw just 24 robberies in the year’s first quarter.

Nationwide, 530 robberies were recorded in the statistics, which makes Oulu’s share ten percent of the total.
Aggravated assault cases have doubled in number in Oulu, in contrast with a slight decline nationwide.

During the first quarter this year, 27 cases of aggravated assault were reported to the police, but just a year ago the number from the corresponding months was only 12.
