Missing Snake Turns up in Garbage Bag

A king snake that was assumed to have escaped from an apartment on Hallituskatu Street was eventually discovered in its owner’s apartment on Saturday evening. The snake had slithered its way into a tied-up garbage bag.

The disappearance of the snake spurred an announcement to inform other residents in the building. While king snakes are not poisonous, they can behave aggressively or hiss if startled.

“Our cat started meowing next to the cupboard, so I looked inside and I could see its tail hanging out the bag. It wasn’t the first place I would have started looking,” said the snake’s owner, Salla Pätsi.
The snake was in good condition when found and seemed unfazed by the ordeal, according to Pätsi.

She guesses that the cat most probably jumped on top of the terrarium and accidentally unhinged its cover. She has since put an extra cover to prevent the cat from opening the terrarium again.
