Loading at the new Laanila waste incineration plant began last Tuesday morning. The first garbage load was delivered by Oulun Jätehuolto, the city’s waste management company.
Mikael Tervaskanto, who is managing the project for Oulun Energia, relates that approximately ten loads of garbage were taken in Tuesday in a preliminary test-run to gauge the effectiveness of the plant’s delivery and unloading processes.
By Wednesday the number of deliveries will have increased to about 20 loads, according to Tervaskanto. The incinerator itself won’t be fired until an estimated 100 loads have been stocked at the Laanila site.
Initial waste incineration is slated to begin next Monday. If all goes well, the plant will begin full-scale operations in August.
